When you register, we collect your full name, email address, phone number, level of education, institution, and state/LGA. For landlords and agents, we collect government ID and business registration documents. For scouts, we collect NIN details. We also collect listing data, bid history, payment records, and device information for push notifications.
Your information is used to: verify your identity; process bids and escrow payments; match you with relevant listings and roommates; send you important notifications about your account; improve the platform; comply with Nigerian legal requirements; and communicate with you about your account activity.
All payment processing is handled by Paystack. RoomieNG does not store your card details. Bank account information you provide (for payouts) is encrypted and only used for transferring earnings from Scout jobs and rental payouts. We never sell or share your bank details with third parties.
Government-issued IDs, WAEC/NECO results, NIN slips, and CAC certificates uploaded during registration are stored securely on Cloudinary with restricted access. They are used solely for account verification purposes. Documents are retained for the duration of your account and deleted within 30 days of account closure.
When you list a property, GPS coordinates are captured to enable map display. When you use the "Near Me" feature, your location is used to find nearby listings. Location data is not stored persistently unless attached to a listing. Scout GPS data during active jobs is temporarily tracked for the duration of the job and deleted upon completion.
If you enable push notifications, your device subscription endpoint is stored securely. You can unsubscribe at any time from Settings. We send push notifications only for events directly relevant to your account (new bids, bid approvals, messages, escrow updates). We do not send marketing push notifications.
We do not sell your personal data. We share your data only with: Paystack (payment processing); Cloudinary (media storage); our verified service providers bound by confidentiality; and Nigerian regulatory authorities when required by law. Landlords see bidder names and basic profile information when reviewing bids. Other users do not see your phone number or email address.
We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text. JWT tokens are used for authentication with short expiry windows. We conduct regular security reviews and promptly address any vulnerabilities.
You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your account and associated data; withdraw consent for push notifications at any time; and export your listing and bid history. RoomieNG uses minimal browser storage (localStorage) to remember your login session, theme preference, and app installation state. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or advertising cookies. No data from your RoomieNG usage is shared with advertising networks.
RoomieNG is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover that a minor has registered, we will delete their account and associated data promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy as the platform evolves. Changes will be communicated via in-app announcements. Continued use of the platform after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
